World IN BRIEF : NICARAGUA : Sandinistas Blamed in Weapons Blast

A preliminary report by international investigators blamed Sandinista officials for providing false passports and missiles discovered in a secret arms cache that blew up in Managua in May. Former Salvadoran guerrillas claimed responsibility for the arms but said the passports were not theirs. The findings appeared to support the Nicaraguan government position that the leftist Sandinistas, who ruled Nicaragua from 1979 to 1990 and remain a powerful opposition party, allowed international radicals to operate out of Nicaragua.
