The Redlands water polo team stopped Claremont-Mudd’s 111-game conference winning streak when it defeated the Stags, 13-5, Wednesday night at Redlands.
Claremont-Mudd’s winning streak in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games dated to 1982.
“It was going to come to an end--you knew that,” Claremont-Mudd Coach Mike Sutton said. “It’s not healthy for one team to win all the time. Give credit to (Redlands Coach) Tom Whittemore. They are better than we are tonight. They are a top-20 team.”
Redlands, which is ranked 19th, is 14-6 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC games. Claremont-Mudd is 10-9 and 1-1.
