PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Santa Ana Valley Gets Past Pasadena Muir

Olujimi Mann had 26 points and Darnell Adamson had 20 as Santa Ana Valley beat Pasadena Muir, 65-59, in the semifinals of the Coca-Cola Converse Classic Friday at Capistrano Valley.

The Falcons (4-0) took a 32-23 lead at the half and hung on. They will play Lynwood for the tournament title at 8:15 tonight at Trabuco Hills.

In other Coca-Cola Converse Classic games:

Capistrano Valley 57, San Diego Rancho Bernardo 56--Keith Carson made a game-winning free throw with 17 seconds remaining to lift the Cougars in a consolation game. Rancho Bernardo came back from a 17-point deficit to tie the score, 56-56. Brandon Puffer scored 14 points for the Cougars.

Tustin 63, Long Beach Jordan 50--Doug Gottlieb scored 17 points and Jeff Aguilar scored 16 points to lead Tustin. The Tillers will face Santa Margarita in the championship final today at 4:45 p.m. at Trabuco Hills High.

In the Costa Mesa Kiwanis tournament:

Century 43, Anaheim 26--Thomas Harmon had a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds, and Gabriel Aguirre added eight points and six rebounds to lead Century (3-1) in a semifinal. The Centurions will face Magnolia in the final tonight.

Buena Park 78, Chino Hills Boys Republic 34--Senior center Nile Evans finished with a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Coyotes (2-4) in a consolation-round game at Costa Mesa High. Courtney Smith, a sophomore forward, added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Bolsa Grande 48, Los Amigos 43--Quang Nguyen, Brian Stewart and Jeff Park each scored 10 points to give Bolsa Grande its first victory of the season (1-3) in a consolation game.

In the La Quinta boys’ tournament:

Katella 56, Savanna 50--LaByron Clayton scored a team-high 19 points and tournament MVP Nick Roditis added 14 to lead Katella (6-1) to the tournament title. Jermaine Moore scored 24 points and Todd Wilson added 21 to lead Savanna.

La Quinta 66, Cypress 55--Greg Greenfield scored 23 points, Jason Gondringer scored 18 and Todd Snyder had 13 assists and six points for La Quinta (2-1) in the third-place game.

Estancia 57, Westminster 54--Clay Frenz made all 14 of his free throw attempts, including eight in the fourth quarter, to lead Estancia (4-3) in the consolation final. Frenz finished with a game-high 22 points and Mark Pierson added 16 for the Eagles.

Garden Grove 77, Liberty Christian 70--Mike Campuzano scored 20 points to lead Garden Grove (1-2) in a consolation game. Dave Vaccaro had 36 points, 19 rebounds, five assists, five steals and five blocks for Liberty Christian.

In the Santa Maria Valley boys’ tournament:

Edison 69, Morro Bay 59--Ali Tofighi scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds for Edison in a semifinal.

In nonleague boys’ play:

Los Alamitos 92, Villa Park 63--Ryan Staniec scored 18 points and Ali Ton had 13 points, 13 assists and nine steals for Los Alamitos (5-0).

Huntington Beach Claremont 59, Pacific Shores 57 (OT)--Forward Steve Kimble’s two free-throws with about a minute left in overtime gave Claremont (3-0) the victory. Kimble, who scored 28 points, made a layup at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.

St. Margaret’s 62, La Canada Flintridge Prep 47--Damian Raibon had 20 points and 12 rebounds and Lupe Rodriguez added 15 points and six assists to lead St. Margaret’s (4-2).

In the Brea-Olinda Ladycat Classic girls’ tournament:

Brea-Olinda 76, Bishop Montgomery 34--Center Colleen Hudson had 15 points as Brea-Olinda (7-0) cruised into the tournament final. Forward Lee Moulin had three three-pointers for the Ladycats.

Ontario 45, Mission Viejo 44--The Diablos couldn’t hold on in the last minutes in the fourth quarter. Treva Whitaker had 11 points for the Diablos (3-2).

In the San Diego Rancho Bernardo girls’ tournament:

Mater Dei 74, San Diego Rancho Bernardo 39--Melody Peterson scored a game-high 21 points and Leticia Oseguera added 18 points to lead Mater Dei (5-1) in the semifinals. Mater Dei will face Poway in the finals at 8 tonight.

In the Santa Barbara San Marcos girls’ tournament:

Lompoc 47, Tustin 46--Led by Katie Scheuerman, who had 18 points, the Tillers came back within one point in the fourth quarter, but failed to make two layups in the last minute of a consolation game.

In the Beverly Hills girls’ tournament:

Estancia 42, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 30--Laura Czingula scored 14 points and Cyndi Richards scored eight to lead Estancia (5-1) in the third-place game.

Edison, Valencia in Tournament Final

Marie Philman had 17 points and 14 rebounds to help Edison to a 43-30 victory over La Habra in the semifinals of the Savanna girls’ basketball tournament Friday.

The Chargers (3-0) will meet Valencia for the title tonight at 8:30. Valencia defeated Bellflower, 42-24, as Cindy Judd scored 12 points, and LaQuinta Alexander added 10.
