* * 1/2 Jane Child, “Here Not There,” Warner Bros. On her sophomore effort, the soul-influenced pop singer veers sharply from the radio-friendly accessibility of her first hit single, “Don’t Want to Fall in Love.” Not all of her experiments pay off, but she nicely evokes the breathy, baby-beatnik style of Rickie Lee Jones on the title cut.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
