Nation IN BRIEF : NATIONWIDE : Klan Plans Rallies Protesting King Day

The NAACP and others are planning to counter the Ku Klux Klan’s protests this weekend against the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, including demonstrations in some klan leaders’ neighborhoods. Rallies at state capitols in Ohio, Colorado, Arkansas, Kansas, Alabama, Florida, Texas and Illinois are being organized by the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan’s national office in Harrison, Ark. However, some NAACP chapter presidents said counterdemonstrations would only give the klan more attention because of increased media coverage.
