UCI Track and Field Home Opener Set for Today

IRVINE — The UC Irvine men’s and women’s track and field teams will play host to their 1994 home opener today against Cal State Fullerton, Weber State, Cal State Los Angeles and Cal Poly Pomona.

Field events begin with the hammer throw at 11:30 a.m. The women’s 5,000 meters begins the running events at 12:10 p.m.

Laura Monson, Irvine’s freshman distance runner, will run the 1,500 while attempting to win an event in a meet for the fifth consecutive time. All her victories, however, have come at 3,000 or 5,000; she has twice run second in the 1,500.

Senior Traci Goodrich, a 1992 All-American in the 10,000 meters and Big West runner-up in cross-country last fall, is expected to make her season debut in the 3,000 today after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on her left knee in January.
