PREP ROUNDUP : Villa Park Finally Beats Foothill in Swimming

The Villa Park boys’ and girls’ swimming teams beat Foothill for the first time in 20 years the teams have met. The Villa park boys won, 98-72, and the girls won, 100-76.
Brian Pharris won the 200 individual medley (2:09.16), the 100 butterfly (57.63) and swam the final leg on the winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay for Villa Park (4-0, 2-0). Teammate Kevin Bobzien won the 50 (21.46) and 100 (48.93) freestyle and also competed on the winning relays. Andrew Smallman won the 200 freestyle (1:54) and 500 freestyle (5:09.37). Foothill is 2-3, 1-1.
In Century League girls’ swimming:
Villa Park 100, Foothill 70--Tea Lindberg won the 200 individual medley (2:22.56) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.72) for Villa Park (4-0, 2-0). Jessica Klugman finished first in the 200 freestyle (2:07.77), the 100 freestyle (57.95). Foothill is 1-4, 1-1.
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
Costa Mesa 102, Westminster 47--Sophomore Katie Grogan won the 200 individual medley (2:36.75) and 500 freestyle (6:01.53) and freshman Colleen Lund placed first in the 100 freestyle (1:03.59) and 100 backstroke (1:13.82).
In nonleague boys’ swimming:
Costa Mesa 128, Westminster 6--James Comfort swam a Southern Section qualifying time of 59.08 in the 100 backstroke to lead Costa Mesa (3-1, 1-0). Comfort also won the 200 individual medley (2:09.22). Bernard Perone won the 200 freestyle (1:59.15) and 500 freestyle (5:20.66) for the Mustangs.
In Olympic League softball:
Heritage Christian 20, Claremont 3 (5, mercy)--Sheri Larson was four for five with five RBIs for Heritage Christian (4-2, 3-1).
In Sunset League softball:
Marina 6, Westminster 2--Marcy Crouch (5-0) pitched a three-hitter and Lynette Velazquez had two hits, including a double and two RBIs for Marina (7-0, 2-0).
In nonleague softball:
Loara 2, Villa Park 0--Chrissy Hartman had two hits, an RBI, and pitched a three-hitter to lead Loara (7-4).
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Mater Dei 15, Costa Mesa 6--Paul Kerwin swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 and Miles Simon won, 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2 singles for visiting Mater Dei (2-2).
