MUSCAT : Mideast Water Talks
Israeli officials make their first in-person diplomatic venture into the heart of Arabia on Sunday when a delegation from Jerusalem flies to Oman to join multilateral talks on the issue of future water cooperation in the Middle East.
Yossi Beilin, Israel’s deputy foreign minister, will head the Israeli entourage to the talks.
Middle East analysts say it is water that could produce the next big war in the region, and the Oman talks are one attempt to head off such a possibility.
The delegation’s trip marks the first time Israelis have been invited to visit the conservative Arabian peninsula region.
