If the competition were wondering about Michael Granville’s strategy for the 800 meters in the Arcadia/Foot Locker Invitational, they weren’t alone. The Bell Gardens High sophomore wasn’t quite sure either.
“Sometimes I have different feelings for strategies, but I didn’t decide until I was right on the starting line,” Granville said.
His choice at the April 9 meet was a wise one.
Granville, who was named the Indoor Athlete of the Year by Track & Field News magazine, led from the start and held off a late charge from Milton Campbell of Atlanta Douglass to win in 1 minute 51.90 seconds--the fastest high school time in the nation this season.
In the distance medley relay, Loyola’s Hugo Rodriguez, Vince Cogan, Brian Duff and Jason Barreda ran to victory in 10:16.15, the fastest in the nation this season.
