Ballet: Malibu Teen-Ager Wins Regional Competition

Malibu resident and ballerina Samantha Anfanger has won a ballet competition sponsored by the Pacific Coast Regional Ballet Company, and will compete for a national title in New York this fall.

The winner of October’s national competition, sponsored by Capezio shoes, will receive a full scholarship to attend summer school at London’s Royal Academy of Dancing, which trained ballet luminaries Margot Fonteyn and Anthony Dowell.

Anfanger, 13, has been dancing since age 8 with JoAnna Jarvis, veteran dancer and teacher at the Malibu Civic Ballet. In December, she will be performing in “Clara and the Nutcracker” at Pepperdine University’s Smothers Theatre.
