LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Deadline to Apply for Earthquake Aid Extended

The deadline to apply for earthquake relief from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration has been extended by a month to Oct. 17.
Since the Jan. 17 earthquake, more than 600,000 individuals have applied for aid. FEMA has paid out nearly $1 billion in grants for emergency repairs, temporary housing and rental and mortgage assistance. The SBA has approved about $3 billion in business and home loans.
The state-administered individual and family grant program has provided another $100 million in grants for needs not met by insurance or other aid.
People may register for assistance at earthquake service centers or by calling (800) 462-9029. Hearing and speech impaired persons may call the TDD number, (800) 462-7585. People with questions about their applications may call the disaster help line at (800) 525-0321.
