AMR Restructuring Announcement Due: The holding company for American Airlines will announce a long-awaited restructuring plan today, and some analysts expect cuts as deep as 3,000 managers. Treasurer Michael J. Durham will deliver “an important announcement on cost-cutting initiatives at AMR,” airline analysts were told. AMR Corp. Chairman and CEO Robert L. Crandall has threatened a restructuring for months, after the peak summer travel season ends. News reports have said the airline has discussed cuts of 20% or more in its management and non-union staff, which would equal about 3,000 workers. American has lost more than $1 billion since 1990 in the highly competitive industry.
