OXNARD, CAMARILLO : Supervisors to Seek Airport Repair Funds
- Share via
With portions of the Oxnard and Camarillo airports in disrepair, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors will be asked to request more than $2.1 million in federal grants this week to pay for renovations at the two facilities.
County Airports Administrator Rodney L. Murphy said in a report to the supervisors that the Federal Aviation Administration can issue the grant, provided the county agrees to pay an estimated additional $243,000 for the repairs.
In his report, Murphy said both facilities require repairs to ramps and runways.
Hal Geer, a longtime member of the county’s Aviation Advisory Commission, praised the move to get the federal dollars. “It’s generally not a good idea to run an aircraft over a pothole; it can do some serious damage,” Geer said. “The ramp areas at both facilities are in pretty bad shape.”
The funds will also go toward the purchase and installation of security lighting and a federally required storm drain study at Oxnard Airport. A smaller portion of the funds will go toward updating the master planning guide for Camarillo Airport.
The supervisors will consider the staff request at their meeting Tuesday at the County Government Center in Ventura.
