Fire Destroys Oak Park House; No One Hurt
- Share via
A two-story house in the unincorporated Oak Park area was destroyed by a fast-moving fire late Sunday, authorities said.
Residents at the house at 5131 Churchwood Drive escaped the fully involved, 2,000-square-foot structure without injury after fire broke out at approximately 6:20 p.m.
Three engines from the Ventura County Fire Department responded to the blaze, as did at least one engine from the neighboring Los Angeles County Fire Department, officials said.
“It looks like a total loss,” a Fire Department spokeswoman said. Authorities said a car fire in the garage started the house fire.
Firefighters brought the fire under control approximately 30 minutes after flames broke out. Damage estimates were not immediately available.
Fire Department officials called in an American Red Cross disaster relief team to assist the residents of the burned-out house in finding temporary shelter.
