Freedom Bowl Gives Utah Another Shot

ANAHEIM — Utah, runner-up in the Western Athletic Conference, has been selected to play in the Dec. 27 Freedom Bowl, the bowl committee said Sunday.
It will be the second consecutive Freedom Bowl appearance for Utah (9-2). The Utes lost to USC, 28-21, last year.
Utah will face either Arizona or Washington State. The opponent will be determined after Arizona and Arizona State play Friday. The bowl coalition gets its pick of a Pac-10 team before the Freedom Bowl.
If the coalition picks USC, Arizona would come to the game with a victory over Arizona State. If Arizona wins and is selected by the coalition, Washington State would play Utah.
By mutual agreement, USC will not make a third consecutive appearance in the game.
