U.S., Japan Hope to Resume Car Trade Talks: Officials from the two nations, after meeting in London, said negotiations could start up again in January, the Commerce Department said. In a statement the department said Undersecretary Jeffrey Garten and Vice Minister of International Trade and Industry Sozaburo Okamatsu met in London “to review a wide range of trade and commercial issues coming up in 1995.” The statement said the two officials will make recommendations this week to MITI Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto and to Commerce Secretary Ronald H. Brown and Trade Representative Mickey Kantor. Details of the talks and the agenda will be announced early in 1995, the department said.
