A female priest from La Canada Flintridge has been elected rector of the 102-year-old Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
Judith A. Heffron, 53, is the first woman to serve the Covina parish as rector and the seventh woman priest in the Diocese of Los Angeles to be elected rector of a parish church.
Heffron will be installed Jan. 15 at 3 p.m. at the church, with the Right Rev. Chester Talton, suffragan bishop of Los Angeles, presiding.
The diocese, which has ordained women as priests since 1979, oversees more than 150 churches and missions in Southern California.
Heffron holds a bachelor’s degree from Westmont University and a master of divinity from Fuller Seminary. She was ordained a deacon in 1989 and a priest in 1990. Her most recent assignment was priest-in-charge at Holy Trinity.
