An ex-Los Angeles police officer, diagnosed in 1984 with the virus that causes AIDS, was sentenced Friday to 52 months in state prison for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old former police Explorer Scout.
Marvin Jackson, 35, was arrested in August, and pleaded guilty to single counts of sodomy and oral copulation.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Bernard Kamins sentenced the former Southeast Division officer to 16 months in prison for oral copulation, and added three years for the special allegation that Jackson knew he was HIV-positive when he committed the sexual offense.
“The horrific part here is AIDS,” Kamins said. “That’s the part that makes it go ‘beyond serious.’ If there is a word for ‘beyond serious,’ it applies here.”
