Suspected Car Thief Held After Fast Chase

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — A suspected car thief was arrested Tuesday night after taking police on a 35-mile freeway chase at speeds topping 100 m.p.h., authorities said.
The chase began on the Long Beach Freeway in east Los Angeles about 8:15 p.m. when a California Highway Patrol officer noticed a car that was believed to be stolen, CHP Officer Shirley Gaines said.
The suspect led authorities in cars and a helicopter southbound, eventually turning onto the San Diego Freeway. The chase ended when the suspect exited on Magnolia Avenue in Fountain Valley, Gaines said.
The suspect was not immediately identified.
