HOLLYWOOD : Owners Cited for Violations at Apartment Building

The owners of a now-closed apartment building were fined nearly $3,000 Tuesday after pleading no contest to life-threatening slum violations at the 72-unit complex.
Los Angeles Municipal Court Commissioner Barry Kohn also placed Alejandro Camacho and his wife, Tina, on three years probation for the fire, health, building and safety code violations at 2017 Argyle Ave.
A convicted slumlord signed the four-story building over to Camacho, 24, and his 30-year-old wife last year, prosecutors said.
Los Angeles City Atty. James Hahn said the building “has long been one of the biggest problem spots in that part of Hollywood.”
The previous owner, Mark Savoy, pleaded guilty March 11, 1993, to 10 Building and Safety Code violations at the building. The Sherman Oaks resident was sentenced to 120 days in jail and 160 hours of community service in a hospital emergency room.
Savoy, who was forbidden to transfer the property until he made repairs to the building, was jailed after handing it over to the Camachos.
The Department of Building and Safety closed the building Feb. 16, forcing the relocation of tenants.
