SMALL FACES: The band P--featuring the Butthole Surfers’ Gibby Haynes, actor Johnny Depp, songwriter Bill Carter and Depp’s Viper Room co-owner Sal Jenco--is working on a debut album for Capitol, due in summer. Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Benmont Tench of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers have made guest appearances. . . .
Garbage, the group that includes noted producer Butch Vig (Nirvana’s “Nevermind”) on drums, is also finishing its debut album for Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss’ new Geffen-distributed Almo Sounds label. Those who have heard the sessions say that despite Vig’s grunge credentials, Garbage has a more straight-ahead rock sound.*
