Airport Rail Service

“From Rail Line to Airline” (Travel Insider, Aug. 6) was right on point. The only thing missing was that Burbank Airport has an Amtrak/Metrolink stop at the airport boundary. Information: (818) 840-8840.

My wife and I flew into Oakland Airport for a visit to San Francisco on one of those irresistible low-cost fares from LAX. Upon our arrival we discovered why it was so inexpensive: You are out in the boonies. Our original plan was to take airport transportation to the BART station at the Oakland Coliseum. That didn’t work! Panic gripped my wife about riding under the bay, although we would have been there in minutes. We settled on a shuttle that didn’t leave until it was filled, cost $25 and took 1 1/2 hours. Most major airports have rail systems that move people from passenger terminals to city destinations without delays and automobile dependency.
