Sensor System Activated to Help Speed Traffic Flow

A network of sensors and surveillance cameras designed to keep traffic moving in the San Fernando Valley has been fully activated, Councilwoman Laura Chick said Tuesday.

The automated traffic surveillance and control system collects data from above and below ground on the Valley’s busiest streets to synchronize stoplights and keep traffic moving.

The system controls signals in the area bounded by Victory Boulevard on the north, Ventura Boulevard on the south, Valley Circle Boulevard on the west and the Burbank city limits on the east.

The last 95 traffic signals went on-line last week in the system developed by the city Transportation Department.
