RUSSIAN BALLET
Famed Russian ballerina Galina Mezentseva performed with the Kirov Ballet for almost 20 years before assuming principal duties with the Scottish Ballet in 1990. Now she is performing with her countrymen once again, touring as an international guest artist with companies in Russia and throughout the West. Mezentseva will join the St. Petersburg Ballet of Russia for a 3 p.m. performance at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way. Led by artistic director Askold Makarov, the company will perform selections from “Swan Lake,” “Giselle,” “Don Quixote,” “La Vivandiere” and more, including Mezentseva’s signature work “The Dying Swan.” Tickets are $15, $10 and a discount package of eight tickets for $40. STUDIO TOUR
Art enthusiasts can take an up-close and personal look inside the lives and studios of several area artists during the Thousand Oaks Art Commission’s Open Art Studio Tour. The self-guided tour of 24 area art studios and galleries from Agoura to Camarillo will offer the opportunity to chat with the artists, view special demonstrations and works-in-progress and purchase wares. Participating artists include Phyllis J. Doyon, Ray Ayers, Gene Schklair, Connie Tunick, Richard Villegas, Dakotah F-B and Eric Slayton. Tour maps and a gourmet brunch will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Thousand Oaks Community Gallery, 2331-A Borchard Road, Newbury Park. Advance tickets are $6, $8 day of event.
