A jet on its second landing attempt missed the runway and crashed into a swamp in Cameroon’s largest city, killing 72 of the 78 people aboard, officials said. The Cameroon Airlines Boeing 737 went down in Douala, an Atlantic port city about 130 miles west of the capital, Yaounde. The pilot was pulled from the wreckage but later died. Survivors included at least two of the five crew members. The reason for the first aborted landing was not known, and rescue workers were searching for the plane’s flight data recorder to see if it could shed any light on the accident.
