Taiwan’s Election

In response to The Times’ reports (Dec. 2-3) on Taiwan’s parliamentary election: The results indicate that democracy has been fully exercised by politically mature people, regardless of bellicose rumblings from neighboring China.
The government of the Republic of China on Taiwan remains committed to its goal of reunification with Mainland China on terms specified before. President Lee Teng-hui is definitely not seeking international recognition of Taiwan’s independence.
