Manuel Andrade of Coachella Valley finished second in the intermediate boys division of the U.S. Track and Field cross-country Junior Olympics meet at Baton Rouge, La., last Saturday. Andrade covered the five-kilometer course in 16:03, behind Jason Bialka of Ohio, who finished in 15:59. The mark qualified Andrade as a high school All-American. . . . Indio football Coach Ed Munson resigned for personal reasons Tuesday. He was 43-17 in five seasons at the school. . . . In girls’ soccer, Tanisha Tatum of Palm Springs scored three goals against Brawley and two more against San Bernardino last week. . . . Veronica Patee of Arrowhead Christian scored 95 points in three games to be named MVP of the Fairmont-Heritage Small Schools girls’ basketball tournament last week. Peete is a 5-8 senior who averages 33 points. . . . Counting the Southern Section championship-game loss to Upland, Rancho Cucamonga’s Deonce Whitaker finished his junior season with 2,157 yards and 33 touchdowns. . . . In wrestling, San Bernardino’s Mike Padilla won the 145-pound class and Mike Nelson won the 189-pound class at the Barstow tournament last week. They were named MVPs of the meet for the middle- and upper-weight divisions. Kory Singh of Serrano was named the lower-weight MVP after winning the 130-pound class.
