KINSHASA, Zaire — A passenger plane on a charter flight crashed in northern Angola, killing 139 people, a Zairian official said Tuesday.
“There were 139 people on board, plus five crew. There were only five survivors,” Transport and Communication Minister Alexis Thambwe Mwamba said. He had no details on the cause or location of the crash, which occurred late Monday.
Most of the dead were Angolans, a ministry official said.
The plane was a Lockheed Electra based in Zaire and owned by Trans Service Airlift, a private company, officials said.
