Man Sought in Sexual Assault Attempt

Police on Saturday were searching for a man who tried to sexually assault a Newbury Park woman in the parking lot of The Oaks shopping center.
A Ventura County sheriff’s deputy said the man brandished a butcher knife and forced the 22-year-old woman into her car parked outside Bullock’s department store about 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The man grabbed the woman’s purse and tried to sexually assault her, Sgt. Frank O’Hanlon said, but the woman escaped and fled into the mall. The robber was last seen running up an embankment to Hillcrest Drive.
Witnesses are asked to call 494-8200.
