STANTON — A 38-year-old Stanton man suffered shotgun wounds Thursday when he tried to fend off a pair of armed robbers with his belt, Sheriff’s Lt. Richard Paddock said.
Jesus Zuniga was walking in the 8400 block of Cerritos Avenue at about 6:40 p.m. when two teenagers approached him, one 18 and the other about 15 or 16, Paddock said.
When the smaller youth demanded money, Zuniga “attempted to defend himself and took off his belt and started swinging it,” Paddock said. “The shorter suspect leveled a sawed-off shotgun at him and shot him.”
Zuniga suffered wounds from his left shoulder to his left knee and was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening, Paddock said.
Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a large, older, tan or brown vehicle that was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed.
