Several Olympians and Olympic hopefuls will be among the competitors today in the UCLA/Gilda Marx gymnastics invitational at Pauley Pavilion. The meet, which begins at 2 p.m., features men’s and women’s college teams and a UCLA men’s alumni squad, which includes Olympian Scott Keswick.
This will be Keswick’s first major competition since suffering a back injury last March and an important hurdle in his comeback as he aims toward Atlanta this summer.
Also scheduled to compete are 1992 Olympians Stella Umeh (Canada), Luisa Portocarrero (Guatemala) and Chris Waller, a former Bruin.
Chainey Umphrey and Steve McCain, who qualified last weekend for the U.S. World Championship team also are scheduled to compete.
Joining UCLA are women’s teams from Brigham Young, Cal State Fullerton and Arizona and men’s teams from New Mexico and Arizona State.
