Pismo Beach Favorite

Michael Parrish’s Weekend Escape to Pismo Beach (“Feeling Fluttery,” Jan. 28) brought back some great memories of our vacations in Pismo over the last couple years. He hit all our favorite spots except one: a little hole in the wall a few doors up from Harry’s Bar. It’s called Jalapenos Taco Hut. The chicken they serve is addictive and their Baja-style fish tacos are better than the original. The owners say that they open and close whenever they feel like it. They seem to mean it too. You can usually count on them to be open for lunch but after that, it’s hit or miss. We crave them every time we’re in Pismo Beach.

A little-known fact is that the Pismo clam is more prolific than the Monarch butterfly. That is because each clam is unisexual and can produce as many as 15,000,000 eggs per season. The clams, like the butterflies, are there, and families find them. You just have to hunt for them.
