NORTHRIDGE — Los Angeles police on Tuesday confirmed the identities of a Van Nuys father and daughter killed in a collision between their van and an ambulance.
Ismael Popaca Diaz, 39, and his daughter Rosa, 10, were hurled from their van Monday when it struck an ambulance that went through a red light with its siren blaring, LAPD Det. Rick Talkington said.
Talkington said the MedTrans ambulance, which had no patient aboard, apparently caused the collision and that the district and city attorney’s offices will decide whether to file criminal charges against the driver.
“We’re going to take our time with this because it’s obviously so tragic and so sensitive,” Talkington said.
An executive of Glendale-based MedTrans said the ambulance driver, Luis Schaeffer, has been reassigned to administrative duties and that MedTrans is conducting its own investigation.
