Howes, from Sunny Hills High, was a reserve on the 1993 Rancho Santiago team that won a state title. He went on a two-year mission for his church and returned this season. He was 11 for 17 as Rancho Santiago won three games in regional play last weekend. He had four hits and drove in five runs Saturday as the Dons beat Citrus, 12-4.

* Saddleback, freshman. He had rounds of one-over 73 and two-under 70 to finish second overall and lead Saddleback to the state title at Santa Maria Country Club.
