Torch Run to Benefit Special Olympians
The torch for the Special Olympics Summer Games will wend its way across Ventura County on June 20 after an 8:30 a.m. ceremony on the front steps of Ventura City Hall.
More than 150 law enforcement officers will participate in the torch run to raise money for a delegation of Ventura County Special Olympians who will compete in the Summer Games at UCLA’s Drake Stadium from June 21-23.
The officers will raise money by selling Torch Run T-shirts and working as servers at local restaurants during Tip-A-Cop fund-raising events, in which they donate their tips to the Special Olympics.
Proceeds will help send a delegation of 65 Special Olympians and their coaches to the event. Other cities across the country and abroad are sponsoring similar runs in an effort to raise $3.5 million for the Special Olympics. For more information, call 654-7787.
