City Will Continue Sharing Waste Expert

For at least another year, the city will continue an arrangement with three other cities for solid-waste management.
Under an agreement this year, Cypress, La Palma, Los Alamitos and Seal Beach have shared a contract employee who handles many aspects of urban waste disposal.
Cypress is the base for the employee, and the other three cities reimburse Cypress for the number of service hours provided to them, plus a 10% administrative fee. The waste specialist helps the four cities in the monitoring of solid-waste programs, as required by the state.
The Cypress City Council last week approved a one-year extension of the contract with the specialist.
City Manager Darrell Essex told the City Council that Cypress has benefited significantly by having the waste management specialist.
“During the current budget year, the contract employee assisted in the completion of the purchase and installation of the city’s records management imaging system, assisted in drafting a new solid-waste ordinance and expanded the telephone book recycling program,” Essex said.
