* Ran a school-record 47.9 and placed fifth in the City Section championships. He also recorded three of the region’s five fastest times.

* The Ventura County champion ran 1:57 or faster six times, topped by a region-leading 1:55.20. He finished seventh in the Southern Section Division I championships.

* Runner-up in the Southern Section Division II championships. Ran 4:23.25 or faster six times, capped by a school-record 4:17.09 for fifth place in the Masters Meet.

WILL BERNALDO

* Cal State Northridge-bound Bernaldo ran a school-record 9:04.18 to place second in the State championships after winning the Masters Meet and the Southern Section Division III title.

* The Mission League champion recorded the three fastest times in the region, capped by a 39.42 for second in the Southern Section Division III final.

* Placed second in the triple jump and fourth in the high jump in the Southern Section Division I championships and advanced to the State meet in both events. He was the region leader in the triple jump at 47 feet and co-leader in the high jump at 6-8.

* Occidental-bound DeMartinis cleared a region-leading 15-1 early in the season, but a severely sprained left ankle prevented him from jumping in the Southern Section Division III finals.

* Brigham Young-bound running back set a Ventura County record of 24-9 and won his third county title, but was not allowed to compete in the Southern Section Division II championships because he didn’t show up for his 200-meter heat in the preliminaries after Coach Bill Hayes said he intentionally false started in the 100.

* Brigham Young-bound linebacker won his second consecutive Ventura County title, placed fourth in the Southern Section Division I championships and led the region at 53-6 1/2.

* Mortensen set a national high school record with a time of 9 minutes 48.49 seconds in the Southern Section Masters Meet, cutting more than 11 seconds off the previous outdoor best. Mortenson, who will attend UCLA, also won a national cross-country championship in December.

* Rebounded from early-season injuries to place third in the City Section finals and ninth in the State championships after running a career-best of 12.23 in her qualifying heat.

SHARIKA HIGGINS

200 meters

* The Ventura County champion placed fifth in the Southern Section Division I finals. She also had the three fastest times in the region, led by a school-record 24.60.

KADRINA COFFEE

400 meters

* Placed third in the Southern Section Division I championships with a region-leading 55.26 before injured quadriceps led to a disappointing sixth in the Masters Meet.

* Placed fifth in the State championships with a school record 2:14.24 and was third in the Southern Section Division I finals. She also ran five of the region’s top seven times.

* Southern Section Division I champion in both events. Placed third in the lows and fifth in the highs in the State championships with school-record times of 42.68 and 14.37. Her time in the lows moved her to second on the all-time region list.

* Three-time Southern Section Division III champion cleared a school record of 5-10 to win the State meet and move into a tie for fourth on the all-time region list.

BRIDGET PEARSON

* Raised the region record to 11-8 and placed second in the State as well as the Southern Section Division I championships. She jumped 11 feet or higher in five meets.

KENYA CORLEY

Long jump

* Won the Southern Section Division I title on her last jump with a school record of 19-2 3/4, a mark that moved her to seventh on the all-time region list.

JAMEKA TAYLOR

Littlerock, Freshman

Triple jump

* Bounded a school record 37-2 and placed sixth in the Southern Section Division I championships. She was the only competitor in the region to jump better than 37 feet.

* Won the discus and placed third in the shotput in the Southern Section Division I championships before finishing sixth in the shotput and ninth in the discus in the State meet. She set school records of 43-3 in the shotput and 145-6 in the discus, a mark that ties her for third on the all-time region list.

100 meters

The region’s top 100-meter competitor during the first half of the season, she ran 12.21 to win the Golden League title.

200 meters

Defeated Coffee and Holmes for the Golden League title and had a season best of 24.94.

400 meters

Lowered the school record five times, capped by a 56.85 clocking for second in the Southern Section Division III champi onships.

SHALUINN FULLOVE

Louisville, Senior

800 meters, 1,600 meters

The Stanford-bound Fullove set school re cords of 2:15.69 in the 800 and 4:58.38 in the 1,600. Her 1,600 time was good enough for third in the State championships. She won both events in the Southern Section Division III finals.

Lowered the school record twice, capped by a sixth-place clocking of 10:46.48 in the Masters Meet.

Frontier League champion placed fourth in the Southern Section Division III championships with a personal best of 15.07.
