While Eddie Murphy in “The Nutty Professor” was filling up theaters, Castle Rock’s “Lone Star” opened better than any other picture in director John Sayles’ career. The story of murder, race and love in a small Texas town earned an impressive $10,241 per-screen average in its second week of release.
