From Times Wire Reports
Hundreds of thousands of Israeli public sector workers began a 10-hour strike to protest budget cuts by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s new government. The strike, called by the Histadrut trade union federation, affected banks, airports, rail and port services, hospitals and many state-controlled companies. The $1.5 billion in budget cuts will increase the cost of bus fares and doctors’ visits and lower child-care allowances. The government also plans to scale down pension plans for civil servants and reduce its work force.
