India Gives Final OK to Enron Plant: The government said it gave approval to Enron Corp. to go ahead with its $2.1-billion power project in the western state of Maharashtra. The final clearance from the finance ministry would now enable Houston-based Enron to resume operations on the 2,450-megawatt power project after political wrangling disrupted work for nearly a year. The U.S. energy giant is setting up the power project with Bechtel Group Inc. of San Francisco and Fairfield, Conn.-based General Electric Co. The three firms formed a separate company, Dabhol Power Corp., to set up the power project. Enron controls 80%. It said it hopes to resume construction on the plant in August.
