TURKEY : Cyprus Factions to Meet, Albright Says

Madeleine Albright, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, brokered what appeared to be a breakthrough to reduce tension on Cyprus, arranging a meeting between military commanders from the Cypriot national guard and Turkish forces occupying the northern part of the island. A date for the meeting has not yet been set. Albright later met Turkish Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan in Ankara. She urged Turkey to allow allied air force planes to continue patrolling the skies of northern Iraq.
