On Further Review, Bills Beat Vikings

Associated Press

Henry Bailey scored on a 97-yard kickoff return and an eight-yard catch to lead the Buffalo Bills to a 35-12 exhibition victory over the Vikings in Minneapolis.

Jim Kelly, Todd Collins and Alex Van Pelt threw touchdown passes for the Bills in a game that featured the debut of the NFL’s experimental instant replay system.

With 6:06 left in the first quarter, Minnesota’s Cris Carter made a diving try to catch a seven-yard touchdown pass from Warren Moon. Carter appeared to score, but officials ruled he didn’t have control of the ball before he hit the ground.

The Vikings challenged the call--one of three each team is allowed per half--and the officials wheeled one of two sideline video monitors onto the field. After about three minutes--and one chorus of boos--the play was ruled incomplete. Lin Elliott the kicked a 24-yard field goal.

Chris T. Jones caught two touchdown passes and the Eagles took advantage of six New York fumbles to beat the Jets, 30-16, in Philadelphia.

Jones, who had five catches for 70 yards, and Irving Fryar combined to pace a Philadelphia offense that passed for 203 of its 229 yards.
