Roster Is Trimmed to 33

The Kings trimmed their training camp roster to 33 Monday, assigning forward Jeff Shevalier and defensemen Mark Astley and Ruslan Batyrshin to Phoenix of the International Hockey League.
Much was expected from Shevalier, a fifth-round draft choice in 1992 who seemed poised for a breakthrough after two seasons in Phoenix.
“I wasn’t disappointed in his effort, but I don’t think he out-performed anybody who will start ahead of him,” Coach Larry Robinson said. “He’s got to apply himself a lot more.”

Defenseman Rob Blake said he still can’t shoot because of his infected elbow but hopes he can play in another week.
