Eagles Trip Canyon in Water Polo

Trevor Walsh scored four goals to help visiting Santa Margarita beat Canyon, 10-8, Wednesday in a nonconference boys’ water polo game.
At the end of the first quarter, Canyon was ahead, 4-3, but the Eagles came back in the second quarter to shut out Canyon and score four goals.
Brandon Joffe and Justin Kroeze each scored twice for Santa Margarita (5-2), which is ranked ninth in Division I.
In another nonleague game:
Mater Dei 14, Los Amigos 10--Mike Fairbarin scored six goals in Mater Dei’s (1-4) home opener. Freshman Danny Cieck had four goals in the Monarchs’ victory.
In nonleague girls’ tennis:
Brea Olinda 14, Sonora 4--Jackie Hasa swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-3, for undefeated Brea Olinda.
Melanie Orchard and Ann Kozma swept at No. 1 doubles for the 6-0 Wildcats, 6-2, 7-5, 6-3.
Buena Park 11, Orange Lutheran 7--Monique Dao and Mindy Nguyen teamed to win in No. 1 doubles for Buena Park, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1.
Costa Mesa 10, Westminster 8--Thoung Tran and E.J. Hartloff swept in doubles, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1, as did doubles pair Kristin Chisholm and Emily Wells, 6-0, 6-2, 6-2, for visiting Costa Mesa.
Cypress 18, Western 3--Sophomore Cheris Van Smaalen of Cypress (4-3) swept in singles, 6-0, 6-1. Western is 3-4.
Laguna Hills 15, Fountain Valley 3--Freshman Jessica Prause started the victory for Laguna Hills (3-2) with a 6-0, 6-1, 6-0 sweep in singles. In doubles, Laguna Hills’ Erin Terry and Suzy Sriker won, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0.
Newport Harbor 14, Beverly Hills 4--Audra Adams and Erika Palm swept at No. 2 doubles for Newport Harbor, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, 6-0. Vanessa Godbey swept in singles, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1, for the second-ranked Sailors (6-0).
Orange 11, Tustin 7--Sophomore Kris Gonzalez swept in singles, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3, as did doubles pair Thun-hau Trinh and Lizette Nibet, who won, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2, for visiting Orange (4-3).
In nonleague volleyball:
Bolsa Grande 3, Santa Ana 0--Jana James had 10 kills in a victory for Bolsa Grande, which won, 15-11, 15-6, 15-11.
Fullerton 3, Cerritos 0--Michelle Halliday had 12 kills in a 15-8, 15-8, 15-7 victory for undefeated Fullerton (3-0). Ali Carey had a game-high 13 kills for Cerritos (1-2).
Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 3, Corona del Mar 0--Manhattan Beach Mira Costa swept ninth-ranked Corona del Mar, 15-7, 15-5, 15-8. Jordana Havriluk led the Sea Kings with 10 kills. Corona del Mar is 1-1.
Savanna 3, Saddleback 1--Melissa Dobias had 10 kills and four aces as host Savanna defeated Saddleback, 15-1, 16-14, 12-15, 15-9. Shannon Gamache had six aces in the Rebels’ victory.
