No. 6 Esperanza (2-1) vs. Long Beach Poly (2-1)
7 P.M. FRIDAY
LONG BEACH VETERANS STADIUM
Three previous meetings. Three losses by three points. Three games into the 1996 season and Esperanza Coach Gary Meek is hoping to stop that losing streak to Poly. Poly is fifth-ranked in the Southern Section Division I. “They’re big, physical and fast,” Meek said. “We’re a little short-handed, but we will battle them.” Aztec running back Jamaal Footman will not play because of a separated shoulder. Linebacker Tony Calocion was ejected from last week’s 28-13 victory over Upland and has to sit out this week. Poly has won two in a row, rallying to defeat Pasadena Muir, 28-19, last week.
