Acting commissioner Bud Selig met with union leader Donald Fehr and management negotiator Randy Levine for about an hour to discuss what Fehr called “a process for concluding negotiations,” but there is still no guarantee that will happen when Fehr and Levine meet again Wednesday in Atlanta.
Off-season work rules kick in soon after the World Series, and Fehr reiterated that the clock is ticking on the virtual agreement that was reached in early August. Asked if an interim deal was possible, Fehr said “we haven’t discussed an interim deal for several months.” A union lawyer added, “the players will be furious if this deal doesn’t go through.”
