Man Found Fatally Shot After Possible Suicide in Oxnard

OXNARD — Police are investigating a fatal shooting Saturday night in south Oxnard.
At 6:15 p.m., paramedics responded to a report of an attempted suicide in the 500 block of Cuesta Del Mar Drive, one block north of Hueneme Road. They found a Latino man in his mid-30s lying face-down in the carport of an apartment complex, authorities said.
The unidentified man was dressed in slacks and a long-sleeve, button shirt and appeared to have a single gunshot wound to the chest, authorities said. There did not appear to be signs of a struggle, officials said.
Oxnard police detectives declared the area a crime scene and began questioning bystanders. A deputy coroner was called to the scene at 7:20 p.m., said a spokeswoman in the county medical examiner’s office.
The investigation is continuing.
