Authorities said Sunday that a 28-year-old man found shot to death in the carport of a south Oxnard apartment complex probably died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
At 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Oxnard police were called to the 500 block of Cuesta Del Mar Drive, where they found the man lying in the carport, the victim of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Minutes later, the man was pronounced dead by Oxnard Fire Department personnel, authorities said.
Police found a gun at the scene and were unsure at first if the shooting was a homicide or a suicide.
Witnesses gave varying accounts of what happened.
The investigation is continuing.
