VALENCIA — A 16-year-old Pacoima boy was arrested Saturday on suspicion of starting a fire with a marijuana pipe near Six Flags Magic Mountain, authorities said.
“Nobody saw him start it, but people saw him walking away,” said Sgt. Barry Samstrom of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Samstrom said the fire could have been started accidentally but authorities continued to investigate it as an arson.
The teenager was released to his parents, he said.
The fire began at about 12:40 p.m. near Magic Mountain Parkway and The Old Road, said Gene Wolfe, a battalion chief with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
He said the fire charred about five acres before 70 firefighters brought it under control.
Wolfe said there were no reports of injuries and neither the amusement park nor homes were threatened.
