Couple Hit Crossing Santa Paula Street; Man Dies, Wife Hurt

SANTA PAULA — A Santa Paula man is dead and his wife hospitalized after being hit by a car Monday afternoon.
Police arrived at the intersection of Main and South 4th streets shortly after 4 p.m. and found 75-year-old Jose P. Perez and his wife, Maria de Jesus Perez, 60, lying injured on the ground.
The couple were hit about 5 feet from the curb as they crossed Main Street by a car driven by 58-year-old Antonio Cuevas Martinez of Santa Paula. Martinez rendered first aid to the couple until emergency personnel arrived.
Jose Perez died a short time later at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital. Maria de Jesus Perez remained in the hospital with moderate injuries Monday night.
